| A
rich amalgamation of Spanish folk music and African rhythms, Cuban
music has had an amazing influence on the world - the roots of salsa,
Latin jazz and the romantic bolero can all be traced back to this tiny
island in the Caribbean!
The intoxicating rhythms of the cha-cha-cha, mambo and rumba first made
their way off the island in the 1950s. These exciting and exuberant
sounds literally shook up the international music scene and everyone
around the world was hooked.
With the 1959 Cuban revolution and the consequent US trade embargo, the
music of the Cubans continues to evolve within and provides a rich
insight into a country that stays true to itself. |
